Turbo Haus is a great punk venue in Montreal, when they approached me about a T-shirt design my first impulse was to bang out yet another barfing skull with a mohawk and be done with it. Quick and appropriate for the venue. I had a feeling though that maybe they would go for something a little more interesting.
Periodically I go to the Toronto reference library and take pictures of the yellow pages. This is an enormous influence on me. There's a certain feel of the designs from the late 70's to the early 90's that really poke the right parts of my brain. I will take any opportunity to go back to this particular well.
The client was very enthusiastic for this concept.
