Just a Dash Season 3 Poster

JAD3 was a departure for Matty Matheson’s cooking series. They left the kitchen and hit the road on a madcap psychedelic roadtrip. This called for a poster that recalled the action-adventure movie posters of the 1980’s. Drew Struzan was the illustrator who brought the Goonies and Big Trouble in Little China posters to life with airbrush, conte, gouache and coloured pencil. To replicate this look and feel digitally I did my best to follow a similar process. A base layer of “pencil” overlaid with soft transparencies as you would an airbrush, followed by opaque hard edged brushes imitating conte. As the project evolved we pivoted form the golden brown disney poster look to a harsher blaxploitation film look that suited the existing assets. Ross Prolux was the art director and designer on this project and really managed to pull it all together in the end.
